Renton Ecumenical Association of Churches By Sharon Kenyon

Our Renton CROPWALK was a great walk with about 400 walkers and workers.  We are still collecting totals, but we have passed our goal of $26,000 and are nearing our top walk of $28,000.  This also includes our donations from internet cropwalk.org.  “We walk because they walk for water” was our theme. We had some excellent signs with a quiz about water.  One walker carried one gallon of water on each shoulder for the walk of 6.2 miles in honor of all those who walk for water every day.

Thank you so very much walkers, workers, food suppliers, and sponsors.

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS FOR CHURCHES AND MEMBERS-

REACH churches are being encouraged to be disaster prepared.  FEMA.gov has classified Seattle and area as a Red Zone due to floods and earthquakes.  It was suggested that church members become text message savvy.  During the Katrina disaster, cell phone conversations were not working, while text messaging on cell phone worked well.  People should have 2 to 3 months of extra supply of regularly taken medications.  People needing refrigerated medication such as insulin is a major problem during disasters.
