Joyful Hearts Preschool
A ministry of Fairwood Community United Methodist Church

Our Mission
Fairwood Community United Methodist Church believes that a quality preschool built on the principle of God’s love (based on the teachings of Jesus Christ), developmentally appropriate practices, and an anti-bias approach to curriculum allows children to be successful in school and in our very diverse world.
Joyful Hearts Preschool will be a welcoming place for children of FCUMC, as well as the surrounding Renton community; including those of differing religious, ethnic and/or socio-economic backgrounds than represented within the FCUMC congregation.

Joyful Hearts Preschool Update
Our church preschool ministry, serving children of our congregation and the local community HAS BEGUN! The doors to Joyful Hearts Preschool opened the week of September 10th! School began with seven children in the 4/5-year-old class and eight children in the 3-year-old class. Joyful Hearts Preschool has already welcomed children from several different ethnic backgrounds and family units. God’s love is evident in the classrooms and expressed on the faces of the children to whom it is directed.
The first week was dedicated to the celebration of families – all types of families! The second week focused on school safety. Curriculum for the third week was centered around community helpers (police, fire, postal workers, grocery store, etc).
Carmella Bowen is serving as both Preschool Director and head teacher for both classes. Jenni Yager was hired as the Assistant Teacher for both classes. We are blessed to have both Carmella and Jenni in the classroom! Their love for God and for his children, as well as their passion for the anti-bias approach to the curriculum is evident!
Qualified individuals are also needed now to serve as substitute teachers/assistants in the event that Carmella or Jenni are ill. And, as word spreads about our preschool ministry, and our class sizes grow, there may also be future employment opportunities. If you are interested, please contact Carmella Bowen, Alan Jacobsen (SPRC Chair), or Lisa Burns (Preschool Council Chair).
Our mission of a quality preschool, built on the principle of God’s love has come to its first fruition! Please continue to pray that God would guide every step of this ministry as it continues.
