Overcoming Life's Disappointments
A New Adult Class
The 10:30AM adult class will be beginning a new 8-week study beginning on March 9th (with a week off for Easter on March 23rd). The new book is titled Overcoming Life's Disappointments - Learning from Moses How to Cope with Frustration by Harold S. Kushner. Rabbi Kushner has written nine books and best know is When Bad Things Happen to Good People which was a national best seller. I think it best to let the author describe his purpose by including the following from his introduction to the book.
"It is an intimidating thing to write a book in which Moses is the hero, considering that someone (Someone?) has already done that, and done it better than I could ever hope to. The only thing that gives me the courage to do it is that this is not really a book about Moses. It is a book about you and me, and what we can learn from the life of Moses, from his successes and from his disappointments. It is a tribute to the human quality of resilience, the ability to dream and to envision a better world than the one we live in, an to the human quality of resilience, the ability to go on bravely when those dreams don't come true. It is a book for all of us who have to deal with people who don't appreciate us, whether at home or at work, as Moses had to deal with an ungrateful people for forty years. It is a book for all the men and women who have begun to suspect life will give them some of the things they yearn for but not everything, maybe not the things that mean the most to them."
I am also including the following links to reviews of this book.
