The trustees of Fairwood Community United Methodist Church are seeking a part time custodian and maintenance person.  The job would involve a minimum of 11 and a maximum of 15 hours per week and will pay $15.00 per hour.  The hours would be flexible. The major custodial emphasis would be to spend four to five hours on Saturday or late Friday evening to prepare the building for Sunday morning services.

On Saturday, there are five restrooms to clean and disinfect, numerous waste baskets to empty, and vacuum eight classrooms, sanctuary, parlor, and multipurpose room (gym), and to tidy up the kitchen.  On Monday mornings about two to three hours would be required to clean all five restrooms, vacuum narthex and entry way, clean parlor floor and kitchen floor, and empty waste baskets, empty coffee pots, and cleanup any minor or major spills that may have occurred on Sunday. Sometimes carpet may require spot cleaning. The position requires someone to spend up to one hour Tuesday through Friday to clean and disinfect one restroom each morning before the pre-school opens at 9:00AM.  Other daily duties would be to empty waste baskets as needed, dust and sweep occasionally, and possibly do minor repair such as change light bulbs, fix leaky faucets and toilets, possibly do some minor painting at times.

It is desirable that the applicant have prior custodial experience and be a self starter. The applicant must be able to lift 80 pounds, carry tables and chairs as needed. The applicant should be familiar with hand tools and some power tools such as drills and carpet cleaning equipment.

The custodian would also be on call for special occasions such as weddings and/or dinner events.  These events are known well in advance and custodial work time will be scheduled with the events/wedding coordinator.  Payment for these events are over and above the pay for fifteen hours per week normal duties. Custodial rates are published by the trustees each year for weddings and special events.

During the months of July and August, extra cleaning would be required such as carpet cleaning and/or vinyl surface cleaning and waxing.  These hours would be paid at the same rate as normal custodial duties.
