Howto: Edit the Pastor's Update
Each month the Pastor's Update contains the message that leads off the monthly Epistle. This Howto describes the process used to update this monthly feature.
Make a Copy of an Older Edition
1. Log in to the FairwoodUMC site.
2. Navigate to the Pastor’s Update page at: http://fairwoodumc.org/pastorsupdate
4. Place a check mark in front of the latest version of the page and click Copy.
5. Click Paste. A duplicate of the latest version of the Pastor’s Update will now be in the folder in the Public Draft state, and should be listed at the bottom of the list.
Edit the new copy
6. Open the new page by clicking the small Page icon (not the linked name) for the duplicate version. Check the URL of the page to make sure you’ve got the copy. It should read something like: http://fairwoodumc.org/pastorsupdate/copy_of_2007-06/
7. Click the edit tab (see image at right).
8. Edit the Short Name field to remove the “copy_of_” and change the date to the current year and month using this format: YYYY_MM
9. Edit the Title field to the current month and year, with the month spelled out like: October 2007.
10. Copy and paste the text from the Epistle word document in place of the text that is already there. Be careful not to delete or modify the table above the text with the pastor’s portrait and their names.
11. The first line of text should be the title of the message. In the formatting drop-down, select “Subheading”
12. The remainder of the text should be formatted simply by highlighting all the text and selecting Normal from the formatting dropdown, unless there is something special in it that requires other formatting.
13. The last line of text should be the Pastor’s name, either Pastor Jim or Pastor Paula, depending on who wrote the message.
14. Click Save, and review the page for formatting or typographical errors.
15. When you are satisfied, from the state dropdown, select Publish (see image at right).
